Final results for our 31st tournament.

Largemouth Bass Divsion:  Brandon Kohler -  21.50 inches
Smallmouth Bass Division: Adam Shackett - 17.25 inches

Read below for all the daily results:

The 31st Whisperwood Guest Bass Fishing Tournament began today on a beautiful Saturday with light winds and mostly sunny skies. More guest anglers will be joining the tournament during the week, however Whisperwood's Mike and Father, Son team of Bob and Brandon Kohler started the event today. A very good morning for Whisperwood's Mike to get some solid bass posted for the week. Early leaders rarely win the tournament however it does set the bar for the other anglers.

Leader Board: Day 1

Largemouth Bass Divsion:  Whisperwood Mike 20.0 inches
Smallmouth Bass Division: Whisperwood Mike 15.5 inches

Day 2: Sunday, August 14th
Another beautiful day with moderate winds in the morning but light winds the rest of the day. Ed and Sue Nugent arrived today and look forward to a successful tournament, they both had their personal best bass catches last year.
Whisperwood's Mike had another very good day adding a couple of 5 pounders to his total. Check out the August 2022 page to view the results.

Special thanks to Sue Nugent for a lure rescue of one of my favorite lures - her kayak was just the tool needed to free the lure from the thick weeds.

Leader Board: Day  2

Largemouth Bass Divsion:  Whisperwood Mike 20.0 inches
Smallmouth Bass Division: Whisperwood Mike 15.5 inches

Day 3:  Monday August 15th
A carbon copy of yesterday's weather - another beautiful day with light winds in the morning and light winds the rest of the day.
Ed Nugent got on the board today with a solid 17 inch largemouth bass and should build his confidence trying to beat the current 20 inch leader. Picture is posted on the August 2022 Big Bass page.

Multiple winners Ned and Adam Shacket will be here tomorrow to add two more proficient anglers to the tournament and another past winner John Ackerman should be here on Thursday to get back to tournament fishing.

Leader Board: Day 3

Largemouth Bass Divsion:  Whisperwood Mike 20.0 inches
Smallmouth Bass Division: Whisperwood Mike 15.5 inches

Day 4: Tuesday August 16th
Variable weather today with light winds early and then showers moved in later in the day but subsided for the evening after dinner fishing.
Ned and son Adam arrived today and they did not waste any time catching some quality Salmon Lake bass. Adam's 16 inch smallmouth took over the lead and Dad Ned caught quality bass as well. Ned and Adam are definitely in contention for the Whisperwood Bass fishing Championship. Pictures are posted on the August 2022 Big Bass page.
Bob and Brandon Kohler had a big day with Brandon posting a 20 inch largemouth to tie for the lead in that category and Dad Bob caught a big healthy 3.25 pound largemouth.
Whisperwood's Mike added a solid 15 inch smallmouth bass was but was just a bit short of Adam's 16 inch smallie. A healthy 3.5 pound 18 inch largemouth bass capped off another successful fishing day for Mike.
Ed Nugent recorded his second big bass with a 17.5 inch largemouth upping yesterday's catch by half an inch.

It's anybody's championship to win and with 2 and a half fishing days left in the tournament, chances are we haven't seen the biggest fish yet - stay tuned.

Leader Board: Day 4

Largemouth Bass Divsion:  Whisperwood Mike & Brandon Kohler 20.0 inches
Smallmouth Bass Division: Adam Shackett 16.0 inches

Day 5: Wednesday August 17th
A windy start to the day with rain expected for most of the afternoon but the whisperwood anglers had a productive morning with some terrific catches and a lead change in the largemouth bass division.

Whisperwood's Mike caught another 15.5 inch smallie (third one), the smallmouth bite has been exceptional for August and with a number of pickerel and good sized crappie along with some low teens largemouth bass it was a productive catching morning.

Ned and Adam were out this morning as well and doubled up with an impressive pair of largemouth bass to show. They braved the rainy weather this afternoon and Adam upped his smallmouth bass lead with a 17.25 inch smallie.

Bob and Brandon were out very early and it paid off with Bob's leading 21 inch largemouth bass.

Leader Board: Day 5

Largemouth Bass Divsion:  Bob Kohler -      21.00 inches
Smallmouth Bass Division: Adam Shackett - 17.25 inches

Day 6: Thursday August 18th
Morning showers and an overcast day with off and on showers summarized Thursday's weather, however it certainly did not put a damper on the continued big bass catching.

Whisperwood's Mike caught a beautifully healthy 17 inch smallie but was 1/4 inch shy of Adam's 17.25 inch leader. Mike also added a 4 pound largmemouth along with 3 other 17 and 18 inch largemouth bass. The cloudy overcast and cool weather certainly got the bite going again.

Sue Nugent caught her first smallmouth bass and Ed added a sizable pickerel for their day.

Ned caugth a very fat and healthy 6 pound largemouth but was just shy of Bob Kohler's leading 21 inch largemouth bass.

Brandon added a solid 4 pound largemouth bass to his impressive total thus far.

Tomorow is the last day of the tournament and don't be surprised if the leaderboard changes again, our tournament has a history of some exciting last day finishes.

Leader Board: Day 6

Largemouth Bass Divsion:  Bob Kohler -      21.00 inches
Smallmouth Bass Division: Adam Shackett - 17.25 inches

Day 7: Friday August 19th
Whisperwood's 31st Guest Bass Fishing tournament ended on a glorious beautiful day. From a breathtaking sunrise to a magnificent sunset this day signified the spectacular week of weather and fishing for the week. As usual the tournament wasn't decided until the final day when Brandon Kohler pulled out his 8th tournament victory with a 21.5 inch largemout bass to edge out his Dad by 1/2 inch!
Just another photo finish for this tournament.

Bob Kohler and Mike spent a few hours fishing together and Bob caught two pristine 18 inch 3.5 pound largemouth bass while Mike added a solid 16 inch smallmouth bass.

Adam & Dad Ned finished their tournament strong with more largemouth and smallmouth bass.

The quality  of smallmouth bass caught this August was unprecedented and we certainly hope this becomes a pattern for the future fishing Salmon and McGrath lakes.

Leader Board: Day 7 - Final results

Largemouth Bass Divsion:  Brandon Kohler -  21.50 inches
Smallmouth Bass Division: Adam Shackett - 17.25 inches

Final results - Saturday, June 4, 2022
Largemouth bass division:  Steve Voisinet -   22.5 inches
Smallmouth bass division:  Brandon Kohler - 18.75 inches

Day 1 - Thursday, June 2nd
Whisperwood kicked off its 30th Guest Fishing Tournament on Wednesday June 2nd and the weather gods were with us, a beautiful early June day with light winds, blue skies and puffy white clouds.

Of our 12 participating anglers we have 3 father/son pairs in the tournament. Thank you to Roger, son Steve, Bob, son Brandon and Greg and son Nick. Always wonderful seeing fathers fishing with their sons no matter what the ages.

Plenty of bass were caught today by our Whisperwood fishermen and it is shaping up to be an exciting tournament with the usual big largemouth and smallmouth bass required to become the Whisperwood champion for June 2022.

Whisperwood's Mike got things rolling quickly with a beautiful 20 inch 5 pound largemouth bass and added a 16.5 inch smallmouth for good measure, however the smallmouth lead quickly changed with Brandon's 18.75 inch 3.5 pound smallmouth bass. The tournament ends Saturday evening at 8 pm so plenty of fishing time left.

Day 1 Leaderboard: Thursday, June 2nd.
Largemouth bass - Whisperwood Mike - 20 inches
Smallmouth bass -  Brandon Kohler  - 18.75 inches

Day 2 - Friday, June 3rd
Day 2 started off very foggy, however the fog lifted by breakfast but the cool temperatures and rain moved in while the sunshine took the day off.
Bob & Brandon Kohler had a big day with plenty of bass and a reported 20.5 inch largemouth bass by Brandon which will take over the lead, however I am waiting to receive the photo to verify the catch, but this will happen Saturday. Plenty of fish caught again by the Whisperwood anglers but just one more day until Saturday at 8 pm to beat the top catches.

Day 2 Leaderboard: Thursday, June 3rd
Largemouth bass - Whisperwood Mike - 20 inches
Smallmouth bass -  Brandon Kohler  - 18.75 inches

Day 3 Saturday, June 4th
Day 3 and the final day of the tournament traditionally finishes with a flurry of action and today did not disappoint. The largemouth bass division was like a ping pong ball battered around with some huge bass catches and the leader was in doubt up until the last minute. Whisperwood's Mike, Nick Pollack, John Ackerman, Tom Isherwood and Bob Kohler with a 21.5 inch bass all posted big bass but Steve Voisinet's 22.5 inch giant bass was ultimately the winner of the largemouth bass division. Brandon Kohler's 18.75 inch smallmouth bass was never challenged and easily won the smallmouth bass division.

Congratulations to all the anglers for an exciting photo finish and a most memorable tournament and we get to do it again the third week in August!

Final results - Saturday, June 4, 2022
Largemouth bass division:  Steve Voisinet - 22.5 inches
Smallmouth bass division:  Brandon Kohler - 18.75 inches

General Discussion / August 14-21 2021 Whisperwood ...
Last post by Mike - Whisperwood - August 13, 2021, 02:36:05 PM
Whisperwood's 29th Guest Bass Fishing Tournament began Saturday, August 14th and ended Friday evening, August 20th at 8 pm.

Leaderboard and final results:
Largemouth Bass:  Brandon Kohler - 23.00 inches
Smallmouth  Bass: Brandon Kohler - 18.50 inches

Day 1 - Saturday, August 14, 2021

Today for the start of the tournament, the anglers were greeted with extreme heat and humidity, however, about 2pm a massive lightning and thunder storm came through with torrential downpours. Fortunately, the storm was short lived and the sun returned with cooler air.  The next few days are looking good with light winds and dry air - let's see how this affects the fishing.

Bob & Brandon Kohler, Ed and Sue Nugent, Ned and Adam Shackett are just some of the returning anglers.

Whisperwood's Mike got things started this evening with a 17.5 inch largemouth bass and a 12 inch junior sized smallmouth bass to get on the board but these fish should quickly be replaced by bigger fish very soon.

Leaderboard Day 1:
Largemouth Bass:  Whisperwood's Mike - 17.5 inches
Smallmouth  Bass: Whisperwood's Mike - 12.0 inches

Day 2 - Sunday, August 15, 2021
Today was definitely the father son team of Bob & Brandon's big catching day. They started early and easily took over the lead in both categories before breakfast. Dab Bob, had a couple of big bass this morning but his 21.50 inch beauty was an instant winner. Son Brandon added an 18 inch smallmouth bass to complete the Kohler Sunday sweep. Both these bass are certainly big enough to win the tournament but we have seen some great comebacks over the years so don't think this tournament is over.  It is certainly a big challenge to pass these two big bass leaders but with our very competent anglers and the bountiful big bass in our two lakes, don't be surprised if we have a change in the leaderboard.

Leaderboard Day 2:
Largemouth Bass:  Bob Kohler        - 21.50 inches
Smallmouth  Bass: Brandon Kohler - 18.00 inches

Day 3 - Monday, August 16, 2021
Day three started off early with Whisperwood's Mike landing a solid 18 inch largemouth bass but the big fish of the day so far goes to Ed Nugent with his impressive 20 inch, 5 pound largemouth bass. Ed now becomes a new member of the Whisperwood 5 pound Big Bass club - congratulations to Ed, but a special shoutout to his wife Sue that netted the big bass just before the hook was thrown to save this big bass for Ed - well done Sue!

Even though our leaders have two impressive catches, there are big bass out there and still 4 more days of tournament action to see if the leaderboard can be changed.

Leaderboard Day 3:
Largemouth Bass:  Bob Kohler        - 21.50 inches
Smallmouth  Bass: Brandon Kohler - 18.00 inches

Day 4 - Tuesday, August 17, 2021
Day four was another beautiful weather day with very light winds and the stage was set for a lead takeover but Bob Kohler's 21.50" largemouth and Brandon's 18 inch smallmouth are formidable leads. The Kohler boat continued catching today with no bigger bass caught and Mike continued catching solid bass including today's 15 inch smallmouth but still far short of the leaders. Wednesday looks like a weather change and the past 4 windless days are over and now the return to Southwest winds should change the fishing patterns. Still three more days of fishing to see if someone can change the leaderboard and if the history of the Whisperwood fishing tournaments holds true to form there is the possibility something special may happen before Friday's finish - stay tuned.

Leaderboard Day 4:
Largemouth Bass:  Bob Kohler        - 21.50 inches
Smallmouth  Bass: Brandon Kohler - 18.00 inches

Day 5 - Wednesday, August 18, 2021
Day five started out rainy and humid and incredibly the winds continued calm for the fifth consecutive day. We always say amazing things happen during the Whisperwood Guest Bass tournament and Brandon and Dad Bob Kohler will certainly agree with that statement after this post breakfast fishing adventure. Dad Bob caught his personal best 5.5 pound bass the other day to join the 5 Pound Big Bass club and today Brandon caught his personal best 22 inch, 7.5 pound bass to join the elite 7 pound Big Bass club and threw in a tournament leading 18.5 inch smallmouth bass for good measure. The leaderboard has changed with two incredible size bass for the leader Brandon but don't start counting your winnings yet in this tournament. With 2 1/2 days of fishing to go you just never know, we do know there are bigger bass out there and Friday night at 8pm we will see who the 2021 Whisperwood Guest Bass champion will be.
A recap of fishing thus far this week shows a 22 inch bass, a 21.50 inch bass, a 20 inch bass, a 19 inch bass, several 18 inch bass, several 17 inch and multiple 15 & 16 inch bass and that's just the largemouth bass division. Add two 18 inch plus, two 15 inch and several 12 to 14 inch bass round out the smallmouth bass division. As usual the Whisperwood anglers show how it's done and with Ned and Adam Shackett (both previous Whisperwood bass champions) joining the tournament on Thursday, we expect another exciting and competitive tournament.

Leaderboard Day 5:
Largemouth Bass:  Brandon Kohler - 22.00 inches
Smallmouth  Bass: Brandon Kohler - 18.50 inches

Day 6 - Thursday, August 19, 2021
Day six had rain threatening all day but it held off until late afternoon and the Whisperwood anglers were back at it catching more big bass. Mike added a solid pair of a 17.5 inch largemouth bass and on the next cast landed a 16.5 inch smallmouth but once again Brandon broke his own record and landed a giant 23 inch largemouth bass to solidify his lead in both categories. Never before has a 22 inch, 7.5 pound bass become a losing fish, however, Brandon caught both so not to worry!

A recap of fishing thus far this week shows a 23 inch bass, 22 inch bass, a 21.50 inch bass, a 20 inch bass, a 19 inch bass, several 18 inch bass, several 17 inch and multiple 15 & 16 inch bass and that's just the largemouth bass division. Add two 18 inch plus,  a 16.5 inch, two 15 inch and several 12 to 14 inch bass round out the smallmouth bass division. As usual the Whisperwood anglers show how it's done and with Ned and Adam Shackett (both previous Whisperwood bass champions) joining the tournament on Thursday, we expect another exciting and competitive tournament.

Leaderboard Day 6:
Largemouth Bass:  Brandon Kohler - 23.00 inches
Smallmouth  Bass: Brandon Kohler - 18.50 inches

Day 7 - Friday, August 20, 2021
Day seven started off cool and breezy but by early afternoon the wind subsided again and the sun and humidity returned. Sue Nugent recorded her PB largemouth bass with an 18.5 inch spinnerbait beauty. Mike moved closer to the leader with an impressive 21.5 inch, 6.5 pound largemouth but was still 1.5 inches short of the the leader.

A recap of fishing this week shows a 23 inch bass, 22 inch bass, two 21.50 inch bass, a 20 inch bass, a 19 inch bass, several 18 inch bass, several 17 inch and multiple 15 & 16 inch bass and that's just the largemouth bass division. Add two 18 inch plus,  a 17 inch, 16.5 inch, two 15 inch and several 12 to 14 inch bass round out the smallmouth bass division. As usual the Whisperwood anglers show how it's done and Ned and Adam Shackett (both previous Whisperwood bass champions) already posting some sizable largemouth and smallmouth bass. Check the August 2021 Big Bass page for photos at

General Discussion / June 3 - June 6 Fishing Tourna...
Last post by Mike - Whisperwood - June 04, 2021, 09:48:54 PM
Whisperwood Lodge & Cottages kicked off it's 28th Guest Fishing Tournament Thursday afternoon and by Friday we had 7 registered anglers - including two father & son teams.

John & Steve
Frank Sr. & Frank Jr.
Greg & son Nick
Whisperwood's Mike

All the anglers have fished both Salmon & McGrath lakes.

As usual the tournament started fast with some solid bass being caught the first full day. Whisperwood's Mike was catching early and posted a 4.5 pound, 19 inch largemouth along with a couple of solid 2.5 pounders but was quickly passed by Steve's 20 inch, 5 pound beauty along with his 16 inch smallmouth.  John added a 15 inch smallmouth and several largemouth bass in the 3.5 pound class along with another 2.5 pounder.  Greg and Nick just began this afternoon so we will see how they do on Saturday.

Current Leaderboard as of June 4, 2021
Largemouth bass division: Steve 20 inches
Smallmouth bass division:  Steve 16 inches

Those who follow our fishing tournaments know things change quickly and often so we will see if Steve can hold the lead.

Pictures are now posted on the June 2021 Big Bass page.

Saturday June 5 Light winds and warm temperatures got this day off to a beautiful June day start. Mike had a productive morning with a couple of 15 inch smallmouth bass and a 17 inch largemouth but not enough in either category to take over the lead. Nick added a healthy, fat 17.5 inch largemouth to get him on the board but not enough to overtake Steve's 20 inch 5 pounder. Franks Jr.'s 19 inch largemouth bass was a great catch, but also fell short of the leading 20 inch bass. Check out pictures on the June 2021 Big Bass page.

Sunday June 6 Light winds and warm temperatures continued on the final day of the tournament and as usual things got interesting but in the end, Steve's two big catches were enough to win Whisperwood's 28th Guest Fishing Tournament. Mike's 19.5 inch bass was just short and a tremendous strike by a 20 inch pickerel got him thinking of the tournament winning bass but after showing itself dreams of the "big bass" were dashed.

Father & son combo Greg and Nick had a great experience on this final day.  Nick's lure was "slammed" by something big, real big and made a run under their boat but Nick was able to get him out and fully expected to see a tournament winning bass but a 23 inch giant pickerel showed himself. I never remember a 23 inch pickerel ever caught at Whisperwood. This pickerel was put to very good use as it became eagle food for one of Salmon Lake's eagles.  We will post the video by the end of the week of the eagle "swooping" down and getting the pickerel.

Congratulations to all the participants and these 7 skilled anglers got plenty of big bass, many 17, 18, 19, 19.5 and one 20 inch bass were caught but in the end, Steve was Whisperwood's 28th Guest Bass Tournament Champion.  Congratulations Steve, a job well done!

Final results as of  June 6, 2021
Largemouth bass division: Steve 20 inches
Smallmouth bass division:  Steve 16 inches

General Discussion / Champions Tournament 2020
Last post by Mike - Whisperwood - August 18, 2020, 09:58:53 PM
Due to the COVID virus and so many plans being changed, the customary 3rd week of August guest fishing tournament was cancelled-instead we had the third Champions tournament with Dad Bob Kohler and Brandon Kohler vs. Whisperwood's Mike and Cameron McCafferty. Both boats had multiple winners from the regular tournaments so it was shaping up to be an exciting challenge. The Champions tournament format is the combined length of the longest smallmouth plus the longest largemouth bass for each boat.

The tournament was going to be a short one, just Monday night, Tuesday and Wednesday until 8 am to determine the winning team.

Monday night Team Whisperwood could only post a 15.5 inch largemouth bass and Team Kohler got off to a fast start with a 19.5 inch largemouth and 15 inch smallmouth bass. Team Whisperwood had a big challenge in front of them

Tuesday - all day Team Kohler was able to increase their smallmouth length to 15.5 inches giving them a total of 35 inches. Whisperwood's Mike giant 21.5 inch, 6 pound largemouth bass and 12 inch smallmouth put Team Whisperwood back in the contest with a total of 33.5 inches.
Both teams have until 8 am Wednesday morning to change their totals and the winning team will be declared at Breakfast.

Totals as of Tuesday, August 18, 2020:
     Team Kohler -            35.0 inches
     Team Whisperwood - 33.5 inches

Wednesday morning - before 8 am Team Kohler was able to increase their largemouth length to 21.75 inches with a bruising 6.4 pound beauty landed by Brandon giving them a total of 37.25 inches. Team Whisperwood was unable to add to their previous lengths and finished with a total of 33.5 inches.

Final Standings: August 19, 2020:
     Team Kohler -            37.25 inches
     Team Whisperwood - 33.5 inches

Congratulations to Bob and Brandon Kohler for their 2nd Championship in our third Champions Tournament.  We are all hoping and looking forward to 2021 to return to our regular Guest Bass Tournaments along with our 4th Champions Tournament.

Son Brandon Kohler added a 16.25 inch largemouth bass to get his tournament skills ready.  Ed and Sue Nugent arrived today and will be tournament ready on Sunday, while multiple tournament winners Ned and Adam Shackett were taking it easy today after their long ride as well. Another good weather day with cloudy morning skies turning to blue skies and sunshine this afternoon and it didn't take long for our first lead change in the largemouth bass division.  Brandon's 22 inch - 6.5 pound largemouth bass (caught this morning before breakfast) takes a commanding lead. The Whisperwood anglers will have to work overtime to beat this one, however, bigger bass are out there if you can catch them! We now have 10 registered tournament anglers and more expected mid week.
Ned and Adam Shackett locked in to some 2 to 3 pound bass and are always a threat to land big bass at any time while Sue Nugent added a solid smallmouth bass to get her bass fishing skills ready to get that "big one"
The Kohler family caps the leaderboard today with Dad Bob holding on to first place in the smallmouth division and son Brandon leading the largemouth division.

         Day 2 Leaderboard:
Largemouth bass leader 22 inches - Brandon Kohler
Smallmouth bass leader 15 inches - Bob Kohler

Day 3: Monday, August 19, 2019
Another good fishing weather day with cool temperatures and light winds throughout the morning and the Whisperwood anglers responded with tremendous "catching" today. Brendan caught his second 22 inch, 6.5 pound bass and on his next cast landed a 17.5 inch smallmouth bass to take the lead in both categories. Amazing fishing to catch such big bass on consecutive casts - we have never seen this done before - great job Brandon!

Dad Bob caught his first 20.5 inch 5 "pounder" largemouth bass and now joins our 5 pound Big Bass club.

Paul joined Whisperwood's Mike for a tremendous morning of fishing with over 20 bass and pickerel caught with a big 20 inch 5 pounder to cap their mornings work. They also had some close range views of an eagle and osprey swoop down on some big pickerel.

Ned and Adam had a productive day with some solid bass and a few big pickerel.

Tomorrow Bob joins Mike to see what kind of fishing adventure awaits them.

          Day 3 Leaderboard:
Largemouth bass leader 22.0 inches - Brandon Kohler
Smallmouth bass leader 17.5 inches - Brandon Kohler

Day 4: Tuesday, August 20, 2019
The Whisperwood anglers were greeted with sunny skies early this morning and the skies remained clear all day with light winds. A beautiful chamber of commerce day and once again, plenty of good size bass were caught today. Bob and Mike hooked into largemouth & smallmouth bass, pickerel and even a few sunfish to cap a busy morning of fishing.  Ned and Adam once again added some solid bass (photos now posted) but couldn't surpass Brandon's lead.  Matthew Schoenberg landed a beautiful 4.5 pound largemouth bass to get his first big bass of the trip.  Colby and his Dad Bob joined the tournament today and already posted some big pre-tournament bass with a 20 and 22 inch largemouth bass beauties.  Ed and Sue Nugent witnessed the Salmon Lake Eagles and Osprey swoop in for some easy fish delights and will certainly always remember the experience.  Doug McCafferty joined the tournament group today and fished with Mike this evening in McGrath lake and Cameron will be paired with Whisperwood's Mike for the Champions tournament this Thursday and Friday.  Stay tuned for more details ...

          Day 4 Leaderboard:
Largemouth bass leader 22.0 inches - Brandon Kohler
Smallmouth bass leader 17.5 inches - Brandon Kohler

Day 5: Wednesday, August 21, 2019
A happy birthday to Don and the fishing gods rewarded him with wonderful presents in the form of a 17 inch smallmouth bass, a big largemouth bass and one of the best fishing days he had at Whisperwood. Sue and Ed enjoyed a successful morning of fishing with Whisperwood's Mike and landed solid largemouth and smallmouth bass along with several 20 inch plus pickerel.  Once again they enjoyed viewing two eagles and the osprey "swooping" down to get their morning meals. Ned and Adam continued their consistent fishing with more good size bass added to their list, however, not big enough to take the lead in either bass category. Colby and his Dad Bob landed another solid 4 pounder today using their custom swimbaits - their first fishing trip to Whisperwood was very successful and hopefully we will see them again next year as a tournament contender. Todays fishing action was cut short when torrential rain after dinner ended the evening fishing activities but the skies will clear tomorrow and the Whisperwood anglers will be back at it. Another good fishing day however, but no change in the leaderboard. - stay tuned more big bass will be caught ....

Day 5 Leaderboard:
Largemouth bass leader 22.0 inches - Brandon Kohler
Smallmouth bass leader 17.5 inches - Brandon Kohler

Day 6: Thursday, August 22, 2019
Another excellent weather day with blue skies and light winds for most of the day, however, not even a heavy shower and thunderstorm for about 45 minutes before dinner could dampen any spirits. Everyone was out fishing again after dinner on a beautifully calm evening. Matthew added another great catch with his 16.5 inch smallmouth bass while Bob's 18 inch largemouth gave team Kohler the lead in the 3 boat champions tournament with a 32 inch two fish total. Mike and Cameron caught plenty of pickerel and some nice bass early this morning before breakfast and Ned and Adam added more to their numbers but not enough to take over the lead in the two bass category.
Tomorrow is the final day for both tournaments and let's see if we have any surprises to finish the week.

Day 6 and final Leaderboard:
Largemouth bass leader 22.0 inches - Brandon Kohler
Smallmouth bass leader 17.5 inches - Brandon Kohler

Day 7: Thursday, August 23, 2019
The final day of our 7 day fishing tournament had excellent weather with blue skies and light winds and all the Whisperwood anglers had high hopes of taking the championship. With everyone's best efforts Brandon's big bass were just too difficult to beat and he took both bass categories for the 2019 championship. Sue and Ed added two good size smallmouth bass as their fishing skills keep improving and this reporter sees them as serious contenders for the 2020 tournament. Ned and Adam finished the week strong and had the first day lead in the winners championship until Bob Kohler's 18 inch largemouth and 15 inch smallmouth put Team Kohler in first place to stay on the last day of this tournament.

Day 7 and final Leaderboard:
Largemouth bass leader 22.0 inches - Brandon Kohler
Smallmouth bass leader 17.5 inches - Brandon Kohler

Congratulations to Brandon and all our Whisperwood anglers for a great week of fishing.  We look forward to seeing everyone next year.

Thursday May 30th was the start of Whisperwood's 24th guest fishing tournament - under a mix of clouds, some sun and cool temperatures 16 hopeful anglers set out to become the next Whisperwood bass tournament angling champions.  As usual the quality of the field showed with many impressive catches including some big brown trout as an added bonus.  Multiple bass over 18 inches were caught and here is the early leaderboard.  Those who follow our tournaments know lead changes are very common, however, the bar was set high today and 14 other anglers have a big challenge ahead to overtake the leaders.

Largemouth bass leader: 20 inches - Steve Trumpbolt
Smallmouth bass leader: 19 inches - Ryan Giglio

Day two: Friday May 31st
A cool start to the day but the skies cleared and the temperature got into the low 70's for the first time in a while.  There was some good bass catching action today with Ron Fredette's 18.5 inch smallmouth bass just 1/2 inch shy of tying for the lead. Another 19 inch largemouth bass caught by Jim Giglio, and a couple of solid 3 pound largemouth bass caught by John Frugard and Whisperwood's Mike. The tournament will go until Sunday evening at 8:00 pm so we have two more days to change the leaderboard - the weather looks good and this writer still thinks there will be some surprises in store before we award the bass championships.

Day two leaderboard:
Largemouth bass leader: 20 inches - Steve Trumpbolt
Smallmouth bass leader: 19 inches - Ryan Giglio

Day three: Saturday June 1st
A nearly windless overcast day was the story today but more big bass were caught including Ron Fredette's  20.75 inch largemouth bass to take the lead.  Roger continues to catch more trout and added a 19 inch largemouth bass for good measure.  Let's see if there will be another lead change by tomorrow evening at 8 o'clock before we find out our 24th Whisperwood's Bass champions.

Day three leaderboard:
Largemouth bass leader: 20.75 inches - Ron Fredette
Smallmouth bass leader: 19 inches - Ryan Giglio

Day four: Sunday June 2nd
A cool overcast June morning greeted the Whisperwood anglers today but did not deter another exciting finish.  Frank Corrine picked a great time to catch his personal best 5.31 pound largemouth bass to tie Ron Fredette for the lead - Frank caught his champion winning bass just before heading in for the day to finish the tournament.  Steve Trumpbolt had another excellent catching day with some solid 3 and 4 pound bass in John Frugard's boat and Whisperwood's Mike added an 18 largemouth to finish his day.

Day four and Final Results:
Largemouth bass leader: 20.75 inches - Ron Fredette & Frank Cornine

Tournament page with photos and results are now posted.

Day 1: Saturday, August 18: Eight Whisperwood anglers begin this tournament and several more may join during the week.  Seasoned veterans and father son combo's Ned & Adam Shackett (Connecticut) along with Bob & Brandon Kohler (New Jersey) are looking forward to hooking into some big fighting Maine bass.  Returning couple Sue & Ed Nugent (Massachusetts) are looking forward to their first Whisperwood bass tournament and Whisperwood's Mike (Massachusetts) and long time Whisperwood guest & seasoned angler Paul Kaufman (Massachusetts) round out our starting eight.

The day began with cloudy skies, rain and wind, however all the Whisperwood anglers started the week long tournament with high hopes of big catches.  Even though the weather started poorly, the wind let up during the day and the evening was cool and calm.  Some good size bass were caught today and Whisperwood's Mike topped the list with a 15.5 inch smallie and 17 inch largemouth bass.  Early leaders rarely hold up and bigger bass are expected during the week so check in to see the daily results and check our August 2018 Big Bass page https://www.whisperwoodlodge.com/big_bass_August.htm for all photos during tournament week.

Standings after Day 1:
Largemouth bass leader:  17.0 inches - Whisperwood Mike
Smallmouth bass leader:  15.5 inches - Whisperwood Mike

Day 2: Sunday, August 19: Much better weather and a change in the lead.
With clear skies and a northwest wind, day 2 got off to a great start for Brandon Kohler.  Bob and Brandon were out early before breakfast and it paid off with a tournament leading 19.5 inch largemouth bass for Brandon.  Brandon caught this giant on a top water plug.  Paul Kaufman had a very good morning fishing with Mike and Paul's senko was the trick for his solid largemouth after breakfast bass.
Not much activity this afternoon as the anglers took a well deserved break from the fishing action and were getting ready for the post dinner bite!  Ned reported a fat & healthy 18.5 inch largemouth and Whisperwood Mike added a 17.5 inch largemouth to his weeks collection.

Standings after Day 2:

Smallmouth bass leader:  15.5 inches - Whisperwood Mike

Day 3: Monday, August 20: The beautiful weather continues and another lead change.
With continued sunny skies, a light breeze and temperature in the 70's the Whisperwood anglers were ready to get back to fishing for day 3 action and test their skills against the lakes big bass.  Bob & Brandon had a very successful morning with Brandon's jig fooling a big 19.75 inch bass to increase his lead in the largemouth bass division.  The other anglers reported fish being caught but no big ones this morning.  All the anglers were on the water this beautiful evening and plenty of bass were caught and reported.  Adam's 14 inch smallmouth was just short of Mike's 15.5 inch smallie and Ned and Mike added another 17.5 inch and 17.0 inch largemouth bass respectively.

Standings after Day 3:

Smallmouth bass leader:  15.50 inches - Whisperwood Mike

Day 4: Tuesday, August 21: Two new anglers join the tournament and a new smallmouth bass leader.
Whisperwood welcomes the return of Roe and John Richter and this will be their first Whisperwood Guest Bass Tournament.  Roe already has a Whisperwood 7 pound largemouth bass to her credit. The weather gods have been with us this week and with more sunny skies, a light breeze and temperatures in the 70's the Whisperwood anglers responded with more big catches and another lead change in the smallmouth bass division.  Adam Shackett used a jig to catch a beautiful, fat 18 inch, 3 pound smallmouth bass. There was a change in boating partners with Mike & Bob fishing from Mike's boat and Brandon joining the Shackett's in their boat.  This evening, Cameron McCafferty paired with Mike and fished a back cove in one of the rental boats while Ned & Bob were in Bob's boat and Brandon joined Adam in the Shackett boat.  Sue and Ed caught some nice fish today, with Sue hooking into a beautiful Whisperwood largemouth bass.  Lots of fish caught today and photos will be posted on Wednesday.  In typical Whisperwood fishing tournament style, we have had a lead change every day - with the weatherman predicting rain for Wednesday, let's see what the Whisperwood anglers have in store for us tomorrow.

Check our August 2018 Big Bass page https://www.whisperwoodlodge.com/big_bass_August.htm for all photos during tournament week.

Standings after Day 4:
Largemouth bass leader:  19.75 inches - Brandon Kohler
Smallmouth bass leader:  18.00 inches - Adam Shackett

Day 5: Wednesday, August 22: Heavy rains move in for Day 5
With heavy rain predicted for most of the day, the morning was overcast but dry, however, by late morning the skies were thick with rain clouds and the heavens opened with torrential rain.  The all day rain forecast did not materialize and by late afternoon, the rain stopped and skies started to clear.  After dinner the lake calmed and a beautiful rainbow greeted the Whisperwood anglers as they headed out trying to become the next Whisperwood bass tournament champion.
The August "Big Bass" page is updated with all the latest pictures and it has been a terrific week with good weather predicted again for Thursday and Friday.  The ten Whisperwood tournament anglers are doing well and everyone is catching fish and even though Brandon's 19.75" largemouth and Adam's 18.00 inch smallmouth are outstanding catches, our Tournaments usually have unexpected finishes with many giant bass caught at the end of the week.  Stay tuned !!

Check our August 2018 Big Bass page https://www.whisperwoodlodge.com/big_bass_August.htm for all photos during tournament week.

Standings after Day 5:
Largemouth bass leader:  19.75 inches - Brandon Kohler
Smallmouth bass leader:  18.00 inches - Adam Shackett

Day 6: Thursday, August 23: Sunshine and brisk winds return
Thursday morning was clear and sunny with low humidity and light northwest winds that freshened during the afternoon.  Brandon joined Mike in his boat and caught a 22" pickerel on his white spinnerbait and the pair added several more fish for their mornings work.
Ned and Adam added some more healthy and fat bass but couldn't overcome the current lead.  Ed Nugent boated his first tournament bass and wife Sue continues to catch her share of fish.  The Richters got a few more fish even in the tough wind conditions.

We welcome the addition of John Ackerman and his brother Dan for the final day of the tournament, however, John is a veteran Whisperwood fisherman and knows the lakes well so just one day may be all it takes to capture the lead.  They are looking forward to getting started.

Tomorrow is the final day of the tournament and it all ends at 8:00 pm with the awards ceremony around the campfire.  Let's see if Brandon and Adam can maintain their leads or will there be a surprise with someone taking over the championship.  Only time will tell and the weather is looking sunny and warm so the anglers will be out all day looking to make a lead change.

Check our August 2018 Big Bass page https://www.whisperwoodlodge.com/big_bass_August.htm for all photos during tournament week.

Standings after Day 6:
Largemouth bass leader:  19.75 inches - Brandon Kohler
Smallmouth bass leader:  18.00 inches - Adam Shackett

Day 7: Friday, August 24: Warm, overcast with light breezes and another lead change!
Friday morning was overcast, warm with light northwest winds all day. The tournament ends 8 pm this evening and as usual a late lead change happened on the last day when Mike hooked into a fat, solid 20.5 inch, 5.25 pound largemouth bass on a top water plug about 7:30 this morning.  Sue caught her biggest bass of the week with a fiesty 15.25" smallie.  Brandon made things interesting by landing a solid 3 pound largemouth bass Friday evening, however, his last fish of the tournament fell short of the winning length.  There were no other reports and Whisperwood's 23rd Bass Tournament is now in the books for 2018.

General Discussion / June 2018 Fishing Tournament
Last post by Mike - Whisperwood - June 03, 2018, 09:17:54 PM
Whisperwood's 22nd Guest Catch & Release Bass Fishing Tournament was held June 1 through June 3 2018.  Under variable skies and changeable weather the Whisperwood anglers had plenty of changing conditions to deal with and figure out the bass patterns.  As usual, the anglers were up to the task and Steve Trumpbolt (first time Whisperwood victor) netted a beautiful 21 inch 6 pound largemouth bass and Ryan Giglio, now a 3 time Whisperwood winner, caught a 16 1/2" feisty smallmouth bass are the champions.

Thank you to all our participants and come join us for the our 23rd tournament the 3rd week in August.
